So you have discovered you have adrenal fatigue.
You have been over doing it for too long, right?
Either pushing your body in the gym plus working and looking after the kids. Or experiencing high levels of emotional and mental stress. You just don’t stop.
You are tired no matter how much sleep you have and yet you probably still push on through the day, expecting yourself to be doing all the things you normally do.
The exhaustion that comes with Adrenal Fatigue can be stressful in it’s self and is exasperated when you keep trying to live like you have the energy of a red bull.
The body is amazing – it will shut your system down when needed so it can repair. But if you don’t let it, it can’t repair.
Cortisol and the adrenals switch on or off the flight/fight response. It is used to give your body short bursts of energy. If you keep turning the cortisol tap on, your body will eventually shut down because this mechanism is not designed to be sustained for long periods of time.
Sleep and rest is how the body repairs. And not just from physical rest but mental and emotional rest as well.
The body processes mental and emotional stress in the same way as physical stress. So if you have stopped running everyday but you are still experiencing high levels of mental or emotional overwhelm, you may as well be running.
And when you do this, more cortisol is released into the body, giving the body the message that you are in stress mode.
So what can you do when you have adrenal fatigue?
You need to tell the body is it not stressed. How? The #1 way is, you guessed it, rest.
1.Rest all parts of you. You have been holding on for too long and now you have to let go and let your body mind and soul repair. So sleep sleep sleep! And rest.
2. Delegate chores and responsibilities to your partner, children, family and friends. Ladies, you must ask for help from your friends and loved ones. Yes you do! You need support. I’m pretty sure you don’t want to be lugging your tired body and mind around any longer. You want to help and be there for others but seriously, are you any help right now? The sooner you get support, the sooner you can get well and be cheap jerseys back, refreshed and recharged.
3. Get professional help such as seeing a counsellor, spiritual healer, massage therapist, kinesiologist, someone who can help you release some of the emotional and mental baggage.
4. Avoid stimulants such as coffee and sugar as they send a stress response to your system.
5. Avoid stressful people and situations. Get honest with yourself. You know who stresses you out so give yourself the best chance to get well and put them on hold for a while, while you get better (or maybe forever?) 😉
And for those events or situations that make your heart beat faster, just give yourself permission to gracefully decline, for now anyway.
6. Avoid vigorous exercise and replace it with gentle, slow walks and stretching.
You need to tell your body it’s ok to rest and slow things down. Nothing about the healing stages of adrenal fatigue is fast, pressurized or hard.
Healing adrenal fatigue is slow, gentle, flowing and calming.
7. Supplement support is great too. I recommend Stress Ease Adrenal Support by Herbs of Gold along with their Mega B Complex. But please speak with your naturopath to explore the best options for you.
It is with a gentle nudge that I encourage you to accept your situation now, before it gets any worse. It’s a time to nourish and nurture yourself. Call in the entourage, let go of the over thinking and make your wellbeing a priority.
